Other Market (How to set up a market stall)

The collective textiles are part of an ongoing research project on food economies, (food) protests and alternative approaches to consumption spaces. This work explores structures for the collective continuation of the thoughts and shared reflection on other modes of exchange. Derived from the shape of an ‚ordinary‘ shopping bag, a collection of textile gestures has evolved. Transformed through adjustments to size, proportions, and practicality, each of them proposes collaboration. The textiles serve to dissect and occupy spaces of consumption, both in positive and interruptive ways, through their collective activation of walking, carrying and sharing of goods. By activating the textiles in public, the space that is recognisable through established images of individual consumption suddenly is rendered strange through collective gestures, leaving room for reflection.
Embracing aspects of constant negotiation, humor, chaos and the unpredictable the work considers the collective carrying, walking, stumbling and moving against and beyond as a means of thinking through collective gestures and subjective experience.
